Croation Picnic

We used to go to this picnic almost every year while Grandpa (Joe) Katcha was alive. My favorite part was the Croation dancers- the girls wore beautifully embroidered dresses and aprons, the boys wore traditional garb and tall black boots. Music was live with traditional instruments. Pigs would be roasted over open fires, and the smell when we walked into Croation Park in Franklin, WI was wonderful. It has changed over the years- dancers don't wear costumes anymore, and the food is more expensive these days- but we still try to get together once in a while with the Katcha's to catch up with one another and celebrate our heritage.
